What did a day in the life of an engineering lead look like?
I would say it's a hectic wall of meetings. A lot of what I do is talk to people.
When people look at my work calendar, a common reaction is, "Oh my God, how do you do it?" But I think the thing about it is that every conversation is a different, fun human dynamic.
You might be talking through a very interesting problem with people, or unblocking something where someone is stuck. I get a lot of satisfaction from the long and varied queue of problems to solve, and it kind of makes the day fly by.
So, a day in the life involves a lot of great social interactions, quick parallel reading of whatever is in the chat app, and checking emails to make sure nothing is urgent. I also try to be present with whoever I'm with, whether the meeting is virtual or in person.
Overall, it's a lot of talking and problem-solving.
