What did you do in college to set you up for success in your career?
College was quite a time. I was very diverse in my activities. I was a McNair Scholar, doing research and writing, and I was part of the Black Student Union.
I'm also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, and I was part of the Cooper Woods in College Enhancement Program. There were just so many opportunities to be active.
Of course, I studied and did my work, but I also went to parties and enjoyed myself socially. I think all of that really prepared me for a certain level in my life.
When I think about success in my career, I think about being able to have joy. That requires a balance of work and socialization and relationships, whatever that means to you.
I think college was a great experience for that. It's about making sure you're doing your work and passing your classes, but also being active on campus, putting yourself out there, and challenging yourself.
You also need to enjoy your time and have a social aspect. It's about going to classes at 7:00 AM, even after staying out late, because at the end of the day, we have to live life. That's what I would say.
