How Identity Has Influenced a Director of Marketing and Protocol Relations at Leading Digital Finance Organization's Career
Houston, a Director of Marketing and Protocol Relations, acknowledges the lack of diversity in the crypto industry, stating, "everyone in crypto literally is the exact same as me, which I freaking hate." This homogeneity motivates Houston to actively seek out diverse perspectives, prioritizing collaboration with individuals from different backgrounds over those sharing similar experiences, even if it means foregoing potentially advantageous connections with more established figures.

As someone who identifies as a cis white, middle-class male, how has that impacted how you've navigated your career?
Here's the cleaned transcript:
"So here's the crazy thing. Everyone in crypto is literally the exact same as me, which I really hate. I crave diversity and want more different perspectives.
In terms of navigating my career, I've tried to put myself in rooms with people who are not like me. If I'm offered a choice between talking to a big, macho founder with the same background as me, or a smaller founder with a more diverse background, I'll opt for the smaller guy.
Even if I might get a better perspective talking to the big wig, who's basically the same person as me, I'd rather talk to someone with a much different opinion. It's like, I'd rather talk to someone who has a much different opinion.
Taking into account that a lot of people in my industry look and act just like me, there are a million others who walk and talk like me. It's like Eminem, I just don't want to be around other 'Slim Shadies.' I'd rather be around someone else."
