What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?
I was an undergrad studying economics, and about a year and a half into it, I realized I hated economics. It felt too late to change my major.
I wanted to graduate in four years, and I think my mom probably would have killed me if I told her I was going to switch to be a Gender Studies major. So, when it came to applying to law schools, I applied to the University of Texas.
I hadn't been to Texas before and honestly didn't think I would want to go. But when I visited, I fell in love with Austin and the school, so I ended up going to Texas.
I never thought I would work as a federal clerk. I never thought I would live where I'm living now in Corpus Christi, Texas, for a year. I never expected to like Texas as much as I do.
I think it's all about having an open mind when it comes to different opportunities that come your way and not taking yourself out of the running before you really get a sense of what might be good for you.
