Could you walk me through your career path, starting with your experiences in college? Please also include any internships or jobs you had before your current role.
I'm from the Maryland DC area and decided to go to UCLA for undergrad because I had family nearby in Orange County. I majored in economics and minored in gender studies.
I didn't know what I wanted to do in college, but I was always good at math. My mom was in business, so she encouraged me to study economics. I started taking gender studies classes freshman and sophomore year and really fell in love with it.
Throughout school, I had summer jobs and a few during the school year. I mostly did social media marketing, which was new in 2014. I worked for several companies, including the US Chamber of Commerce and the UCLA Arthur Ashe Health Center. I also worked on the social media team for Paramount Pictures.
My senior year, I took a gender studies class called "Gender and the Law." That's when I realized I wanted to go to law school. Since I was a senior, I had to get organized and took the LSAT that year.
I took the following year off to work for a nonprofit data organization called Candid, formerly Guidestar. I did social media marketing for them.
That was the year I applied to law school. I decided to go to the University of Texas in Austin. I had summer jobs and internships there, working for Legal Aid and different law firms.
Now, I'm a judicial law clerk for the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas, for Judge Neville Gonzalez Ramos. This position is year-long and ends in August. Then, I'll be moving back to DC to practice for a law firm called Stanford Heisler Sharp. They focus on plaintiff-side employment discrimination and harassment work.
