What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would've told you before you entered the industry?
One thing I wish I had done earlier is taken my SIE exam. For the first couple of months working for my company, I spent a lot of time studying for it. The Securities Industry Essentials exam is a prerequisite for any job in wealth management or finance that requires security licenses.
You can't sell securities unless you have a security license. Different types of securities require different licenses. In wealth management, you need the Series 7 and Series 66 licenses.
As a prerequisite for those two exams, you must pass the SIE. You don't need to be employed by a company to take the SIE; you can even take it as a college student. You just need to be 18 or older.
I wish I had taken it earlier while I was still in school. It would have allowed me to start my job already studying for the 7 and 66. This would have definitely accelerated my career progression.
