Could you walk me through your career path? Please start with your experiences in college. Include any internships or jobs you had before your current role.
Yes, to go into the field of financial consulting, specifically wealth management, there are two ways to approach it. You can go into the banking sector or the insurance sector. I chose the insurance sector.
As an undergraduate, I majored in economics. I knew I wanted to pursue wealth management because many members of my family were already successful advisors at Charles Schwab. However, I wasn't entirely sure if it was the right path for me.
The summer after my junior year, I interned at New York Life Insurance. During that time, I questioned if I truly wanted to sell life insurance as my career after college. After a couple of months with New York Life, I realized I was good at it and could succeed.
I saw myself doing this work, but I wanted to expand beyond just life insurance. My goal was to become a financial advisor and handle wealth management as a whole.
My recruiter at Capstone reached out, noticing my experience at New York Life. They believed I would be a good candidate to join them, utilizing the skills I developed at New York Life to be successful at Capstone. That's precisely what I did, and it ended up working out well for me.
