What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?
Two major lessons are transferable for any person in sales. These have certainly worked in advertising and ad tech in general.
First, there's no substitute for the time you put into your craft. The more emails you send and meetings you set up, the more prospects you'll find. If you can't invest the time, you won't see the results of your labor.
The next lesson is to always fill the funnel. Think of sales as a big bucket or funnel. You need to continuously put leads and opportunities in at the top because only so much will flow out the bottom.
You might have great weeks where you sign new deals. However, if those were your only opportunities, there will be nothing left after they close. This can leave you wondering how to refill your pipeline. So, you should always be working to fill the top of your funnel.
