In my role, people have come from different walks of life. If they wanted to go through the standard way, having an internship or an entry-level position at media companies is helpful.
This could be as an ad traffic or an operations person, or simply gaining industry knowledge. I definitely learned a lot about the upfronts business, media, and its seasons.
