What An Engagement Manager At Connor Wishes They Had Known Before Entering Consulting
Willie, a Connor Engagement Manager, advises aspiring consultants to "be realistic with your goals" while also being "aggressive" in pursuing them. The key, Willie suggests, is to focus on contributions to the team while simultaneously working toward personal ambitions, advocating for "asking for what you want" to achieve a more fulfilling career.

Q9: Wish known before – industry
One thing I learned about my role that I wish someone had told me before entering consulting is to be realistic with your goals. I think people often say this, but I didn't truly believe it until many years later when I looked back.
Always know what you eventually want to do, but be honest and communicate that with people. They will give you feedback, and they will consider it seriously. It's okay to have aggressive goals and want something more, but always think from the perspective of how you can contribute to get yourself there.
So, to sum it up, think about how you can contribute while also reaching your goals. This is much more effective than just asking for what you want. If I had thought about this better in the past, it might have made my career more fulfilling.
