What does a day in the life of an independent media professional look like?
The fun part about my job is that every day can look different. Often, the day is indeed different.
There could be a day where I am driving from one part of the city to another because I have an event in the valley that I'm covering, but then there's an event in West Hollywood. Or I might have to be downtown for something and then go to East LA to do family portraits. And that's just the actual photo-making aspect of it all.
But after a day like that, chances are I'll be at home at my desk, editing. The beauty of my work is that I'm able to go to sleep and wake up when I want to. So even if I stay up doing work or something not work-related, even if it's super late, I can still get eight hours of sleep and continue my workday as if nothing happened.
So, every day looks different. If I'm not making photos somewhere, I'm probably editing them. If I'm not editing photos, I'm likely cataloging them or figuring out how to share them on my website. If I'm not doing that, I'm probably reaching out to people or going through a backlog of messages, emails, or DMs. There's always something to do.
I just try to do one thing at a time.
