Biggest Challenges as a Senior Research Fellow at Clayton Christensen
The biggest challenge Thomas faces as a Senior Research Fellow is the "entrepreneurial nature" of the role, requiring "figuring out" projects and methodologies without a clear playbook or established precedents. This lack of a structured path, while difficult, also makes the work deeply rewarding.

What are some of the biggest challenges that come with being a research fellow?
In my career, I'd say the entrepreneurial nature of it has been significant. School, whether high school, undergrad, or graduate, can be challenging but generally has clear goals. These are the hurdles you need to clear to be successful.
In contrast, some of the hardest aspects of my professional life have been entering situations without a playbook or a formula. You have to figure things out, often through trial and error. You can't just observe others and replicate their actions.
The hardest part is determining what to work on and how to do it effectively. Out of all the possible tasks, identifying the most valuable ones and then executing them without a clear guide is the most challenging.
However, this also makes it one of the most rewarding parts of my career.
