Entry-level Positions for Aspiring Environmental Planners at SWCA

Entry-level environmental consulting offers internships in NEPA planning, a crucial way to gain experience given the difficulty of finding such jobs without prior experience, as noted by Sophie at SWCA Environmental Consultants. Many firms, including SWCA, also provide numerous field technician positions involving "natural and cultural resource surveys," such as bird or archaeological surveys, which are often ideal for recent graduates.

Transcript

What entry-level positions in this field might an undergraduate college student consider?

There are many entry-level positions in environmental consulting that undergrads can consider. Specifically, SWCA has internships available to college students to get their start in NEPA planning.

It can be challenging for recent graduates to find NEPA jobs that don't require prior NEPA experience, but internships like these are a great way to gain it. Full-time entry-level positions are also available across the board.

Some of these roles are desktop-based, but generally, there are more field and technician positions available to recent graduates. At SWCA, and many other firms, we conduct all natural and cultural resource surveys for our clients.

This can include bird surveys, botany surveys, and archeology. Therefore, many of these field technician positions are geared towards those newer in their careers.
