What do you enjoy most about being in your role?
I love working with people. I also love, given that I am playing two roles now, the diversity of my jobs.
I like being able to do something I've done for many years, which is real estate. I also like being able to guide people and protect them from getting into any sort of risky investments. That's super exciting.
When I sell a property, I love being able to sprinkle magic dust on their homes because I transform them. Sometimes, people have wanted to move back into their homes after seeing all the renovations I've done; it looks like such a different home.
Especially when the market was hot for many years, I loved giving them the final offer for their home, which was way beyond what they had expected. So, I love making people happy on the real estate side.
On the investment side, I love using my own money to invest in things and people that are going to change the world. For me, with the stock market, I don't feel like I'm actually investing in anything that's going to benefit the company.
The stock market is like a zero-sum game. If you bought Tesla at $500 and I bought it at a thousand, you made $500. But Tesla isn't using that extra $500 to do research and development.
Whereas if I invest $500 in a startup, they're going to use that $500 for R&D, to pay a developer to create a website, or to do something with it. I just love being able to contribute my money in that way to building our future and building products and services I want to see in the world. So that's what I love about VC investing.
