Could you walk me through your career path, starting with your experiences in college? Did you have any internships or jobs before your current role?
Sure thing. When I was studying accounting at Arizona State University, I was also doing an internship at American Express Companies. During the internship, I primarily helped with account reconciliation and managing their corporate card systems.
I had my first introduction to IT functions there. Prior to that, I had only worked at banks as a teller and in bank operations to put myself through school.
When I graduated, I went to work immediately for American Express Companies in their corporate audit department. Even though I had an accounting background, I immediately began doing audits related to information technology systems, their general ledger systems, and other IT controls.
From there, I stayed in accounting and maintained my CPA. I've always worked in some type of technology, primarily around accounting and business systems. This eventually led me to start my own company and become an entrepreneur.
I'm on my second round of doing that; I sold the first company. Currently, I manage a small team of professionals who work in the cloud-based space of NetSuite, supporting accounting and other business operations.
