What a Vice President at Catalyst Commercial Real Estate Wishes They Had Known Before Entering Commercial Real Estate

Sean wishes someone had told them early in their commercial real estate career that it's okay to ask questions and seek guidance, as "people love to explain and help others in this industry," and not everyone has all the answers. Leaning on others and asking questions of qualified professionals instead of trying to "sound like [one knows] everything" has significantly contributed to Sean's success.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would've told you before you entered the industry?

Not everyone has it all figured out. People are open to you asking them questions. For example, my plumber doesn't expect me to understand everything about the plumbing of a building, so just ask questions.

People love to explain and help others in this industry. When I first got into this industry, I was so scared to ask questions. I thought a highly experienced individual would think less of me if I didn't know the answer.

Looking back, I wouldn't expect a 21-year-old broker, who's only been out of college for a couple of months, to know everything. I would love to help them out. I would rather someone ask the question than fumble around trying to figure it out themselves.

Leaning on others and asking questions to qualified professionals has impacted me a lot and made me considerably more successful, instead of just trying to sound like I know everything.
