Main Responsibilities of an Owner and CEO at Cleantech Inc.

Sean emphasizes the importance of connecting with people, understanding their motivations, and ensuring the right people are in the right roles to drive the company's success, a lesson learned from past experiences where focusing on fieldwork detracted from strategic improvements.

What are the main responsibilities within your role?

The primary responsibility within my role is visionary. My job is to steer the company and decide its direction. Then, I motivate my leaders to move the company forward.

I used to try and do everything myself. For many years, I cleaned and did fieldwork. I realized this was a disservice to the company.

It took away from improvements I could make on the backend to increase efficiency, expand sales revenue, or target new segments. I could also work on improving hourly wages and ensuring people had more hours.

My role isn't about a specific personal process. Instead, I meet with my leadership team every week. I support them in any way they need to achieve their goals.

If everyone is working towards goals aligned with our common objective, we will succeed. Our measurable goal is $20 million in annual revenue.

We have departmental goals that contribute to this overall objective. I need to do everything I can to support my team in completing these goals and hold them accountable.

It's a unique job. You have to connect with people and understand what motivates them. You need to be there for them, listen, have tough conversations, and ensure the right people are in the right positions to drive success.
