About 50% of my job is behind a computer screen, planning events. The other 50% is out in the community, interacting with different nonprofits, organizations, our players, and our staff.
So, quite literally, I am in the throes of planning three different events right now.
This month, we have three events planned. The first is a welcome luncheon for the families of our players, coaches, and football executives.
The second is a mental health and suicide prevention awareness event with our players. The last event is a fashion show for cancer survivors and frontline heroes. These are three very different initiatives.
My day-to-day work right now is focused on fulfilling these in the coming weeks, along with strategic planning for the season. Today, I had back-to-back meetings.
I was working with various vendors. For instance, I spoke with a florist and our chef to develop the food and beverage program for next week. I also contacted different vendors to ensure our corporate partnerships are set up and their needs are met for next week's event.
Simultaneously, I sent out invitations for an event and had three meetings with new nonprofits we may partner with in the future. These were exploration meetings about the 49ers' community impact initiatives. We discussed their missions and causes, how they work in the Bay Area, and potential alignments for future projects this season and beyond.
One meeting today was particularly interesting. The nonprofit provides mentorship and services to underserved youth in the Bay Area, offering support systems many of these kids don't otherwise receive, especially mental health resources.
We had a good brainstorming session about how we can collaborate to provide these children with mental health resources and access. The goal is to help them succeed in life, not just worry about immediate challenges, but to set them up for opportunities in jobs, education, college, and basic needs.
So, my job involves more than just sports and athletes; it's about figuring out how we can come together to affect change. That was my day today, and tomorrow will surely be different.
