What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?
One unexpected lesson I've learned is that the values you live by can be the same in your personal and work life. I was once asked to identify my values at work. I initially thought I needed to be a buttoned-up, professional person.
This was despite the fact that in my personal life, I like to be silly, tell jokes, and bring fun energy to those around me. I believed I had to suppress that part of myself to succeed at work.
However, I learned that embracing my full self at work is the best way to be authentic, feel fulfilled, build relationships, and have fun. This realization has helped me merge my personal and professional values and feel like I'm bringing my whole self to work each day.
