Favorite Parts of Being an Economist and Energy Analyst at Environmental Law and Policy Center

Saad's work as an Economist & Energy Analyst blends "engineering, economics, policy law, and public affairs," allowing for both independent analysis and broader communication of findings. The most rewarding aspect is seeing research directly impact communities, such as through "bills for electricity or gas for vulnerable populations," making a tangible difference in people's lives.

What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?

My current role is quite interesting because I get to work at the intersection of at least three or four disciplines: engineering, economics, policy, law, and also some public affairs. That is interesting that I get to work in different disciplines at the same time.

I also get to conduct analysis, which is at an individual level, but I communicate that work to a broader audience. There is an option to work independently and also work collaboratively in my job.

The third thing is that I get to see my research work implemented at the ground level. This happens through regulations, laws, bills, and cases that are fought in court. I see the result of my research pretty soon, and it impacts the lives of people.

For example, we fight to reduce and make affordable the bills for electricity or gas for vulnerable populations in vulnerable communities. I can see the impact of it in the lives of people right away.

These aspects allow me to have a broader experience and see the fruits of my labor in the real world. That is what is most interesting about my job.
