How Identity Has Influenced a Software Engineer's Career at Workday
Ryan, a Software Engineer at Workday, finds that being a parent impacts career navigation, especially when finding balance since it's harder to "devote your life more to your career" like before having children. Ultimately, family always comes first, because "your career, your boss, whatever, they're not gonna be around in the end, but your kids will be."

As someone who identifies as a parent, how has that impacted how you've navigated your career?
It can make things tricky because when you don't have kids, it's a little easier to devote your life more to your career and take a little less time for yourself. But when you have kids, you can't really do that as much.
So, it can be really tricky to navigate and find the balance between being a parent and being a software engineer or whatever it is that you do.
I think the main thing to remember, at least in my opinion, is that family always comes first. Parenting comes first; the job is always secondary. Your career, your boss, whatever, they're not going to be around in the end, but your kids will be. So, just remember that when you're making decisions.
