What entry-level positions in this field might an undergraduate college student consider?
Within consulting generally, I'm not speaking on behalf of my firm when I share this. As an undergraduate student, you are able to pursue internship opportunities.
I think for any role, it's very important that you seek out internships. This allows you to get a feel for what the role has to offer and what the responsibilities really look like before jumping in full force, full time.
It's a great opportunity to test the waters, hone some skills, and network within the company you're joining. You can also get a feel for the company culture and what day-to-day responsibilities will look like.
Overall, it's about getting an introductory level to the role versus immediate full-time responsibility. So internships are definitely valuable.
Within consulting, at least for the Big Four firms, the hierarchical structure starts at the staff level, then goes to senior, manager, senior manager, and partner. An undergraduate coming in would likely start at the staff level.
