What skills are most important for a job like yours?
I would say that the top skills in my job are resilience, being approachable, and being knowledgeable.
Resilience comes from being able to deliver bad or unexpected news when it needs to be given. It also means riding the wave and accepting that no two days are the same. Just keep your chin up when there are changes in the market, and keep a smile on your face.
Being approachable is really important to me. I want to be the go-to person for my candidates and clients. They should feel comfortable talking to me about anything and everything.
They know I'll pick up the phone outside of hours if there's an emergency. It's about making sure someone is comfortable enough with you to be honest about how they're feeling and how things are going with their job search.
Being knowledgeable is also key because I work in such a niche space. Candidates and clients need to have absolute faith that I know what I'm doing. I know the skills I'm looking for and how to put strategies in place. I can also give correct and accurate feedback.
So, yes, resilience, approachability, and being knowledgeable are the top skills for me.
