**Q12: College Ideas for Success**
What did you do in undergrad to set you up for success in your career? I think the biggest thing that helped set me up for success was an internship I got at a startup during my undergrad.
I think that really helped me when I moved on to actually working as a startup executive. As an intern, I was able to observe other startup leaders, make big decisions, set up departments, and establish processes.
It helped me when I moved on to have role models and a frame of reference for making similar decisions. It also helped because I got to see how culture evolves as a department and as an organization grows.
Culture is key in any organization. I think being able to work at a startup before was very helpful when I started working as a startup executive because I was establishing the culture.
I was able to take lessons I learned as an intern during my undergrad to edify cultural improvements and changes I made at the startup. So, if you get a chance to work at a startup before actually working on your own, it's a great way to understand the processes and the type of culture you want to create.
