Could you walk me through your career path, starting with your experiences in college? Please include any internships or jobs you had before your current role.
My career experience started in high school. I worked with the public defender in an intern role as a junior law clerk. I created PowerPoints, went to trials, and helped interview witnesses and the defendant. It was very interesting.
Once I got to college, I decided to continue exploring the legal path. I pursued a government and affairs and legal position with a biotech company. Through that experience, I realized the legal system might not be for me.
I thought it would be good to look into other opportunities, and that's what brought me to the business world. I really liked the idea of storytelling, learning about products, and creating a customer experience. So, I got a business development internship with a startup during my junior year of college.
It was an ad tech company. I worked there for a year and a half while in school and during the summer. It provided fantastic opportunities to see how startups work and even witness a startup IPO.
As I finished school, I started to think about what I was passionate about. That's when I made the decision to take a leap of faith and join Teach for America. I was fortunate enough to get in and taught financial literacy at a high school in Phoenix. I absolutely loved it.
The only thing I wanted more of was to widen my impact. I could make an impact on my students, but not on the wider population I was working with. After my two-year commitment was up, I decided to move on to an ed tech startup.
I was the director of marketing and then the COO of the startup. It was a fantastic opportunity to see how startups work and make an impact on the education system. I then left that startup to work on my own company, a FinTech startup focused on financial literacy for college and young professionals.
Those were very great and fulfilling experiences. I found myself wanting to explore other industries as well while working on all of this. After business school, I decided to go into consulting. I will be doing management consulting after school.
