What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?

I think you're with some of the greatest minds that exist. You work with great, talented investors and sophisticated clients. These clients include board members and investment committee members who reside with endowments, foundations, or pension plans.

This is an institutional community, as we call it in our industry. You have people who are cutting edge. Consider Ray Dalio at Bridgewater; he's the equivalent of Elon Musk within Tesla and the auto industry.

While people don't always think of investment management as a technology-oriented industry, it is very technological. You're constantly looking to innovate because there's so much competition. You're trying to arm-wrestle opportunities, often ones that are measured in pennies.

So, there's a sense of competition. You have to be wired for it. You have to be wired to win and not be complacent. Innovation, tenacity, and constant creativity lend themselves to looking for new ways to develop solutions and think about things.

Small revolutions are constantly happening, not just reforms. I think that's the awesome part of it. I'm fascinated by the critical minds, the thinkers, and the innovation that happens day in and day out.

That's one of the most fascinating parts: the people. My peers, some of whom are good friends, engage in healthy competition. It's really like a sport, and it's fascinating to be involved in it daily.
