What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven significant in your career?

I'd say that not everybody's tastes are the same, and that's kind of beautiful and cool. If someone else doesn't find the person that you're after funny, that's just their personal opinion.

If you believe in this person, then continue believing in them. Don't give too much mind to other opinions.
