What did a day in the life look like for you?

Most days, we start with a daily stand-up. It's about half an hour where everyone talks about what they're planning to work on for the day and any problems they might have. It's typical sprint-based work planning in the tech industry.

I'll probably sit in on a couple of meetings that have to do with a project in progress, or maybe discuss with a vendor where we might be purchasing something from them, like the scope of a contract. I'll typically have at least once or twice a week a meeting with a senior executive on some type of collaboration or integration that goes across multiple departments.

It might be with the CEO about some large-scale initiative that requires a bunch of senior directors and VPs to collaborate to get to an answer. Then, at some point in the day, I'll get to work on emails, present a lot of Excel charts tracking budgets or project progress.

Occasionally, even though I still work as a director, I do get to spend maybe 10-15% of my day on a direct engineering initiative on my own.
