What skills are most important for a job like yours?
For me, soft skills are most important. When you own your own business, you need drive and resilience to keep pushing it forward.
Ultimately, we are about training and development. I could be the best trainer and people developer in the world, but if I can't market my business, if I can't do the uncomfortable things, I'll be the best-kept secret. That means I'll have no business.
So, the skills that drive you and resilience to keep going, even when you're sick, want to stay in bed, or are hungover, are crucial. That drive says, "Today, we go again."
Not just because of what we do, but in business generally, emotional intelligence is key. We could have great training material, but if we don't engage the client interestingly, if we don't know how to present and communicate effectively, or if we don't work well as a team, it all falls apart.
So, resilience, determination, and emotional intelligence would be the two biggest skills.
