How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?

People who can learn quickly, whether it's how to use internally developed software or how to structure formalized workflows, are very important to being effective at your job.

For example, in accounts receivable, having a specific schedule for sending out collection emails is crucial. It's also important to ensure account managers or sales people responsible for an account are helping rather than pursuing other sales.

Being able to understand the people you need to work with and why they view your requests differently than you do is extremely important. It's about communicating why something is necessary, not just that it's right or wrong.

For instance, I needed to simplify the software development process when I was an accountant. Every time I had to book an expense, I had to reach out to subsidiaries or engineering leads. They would complain that it wasn't how the process was developed.

However, the ability to work effectively with different personalities is very, very important.
