What is one lesson that you have learned that has proven to be successful in your career?

You and I have talked a little about this. I'd have to say, be willing to say yes. Earlier, I thought I was going to law school and I was going to be a lawyer.

I said yes to an internship. I said yes to a job I didn't know anything about, but I was curious to learn more. In saying yes, it opened up a world of opportunities for me.

I see a number of young college grads waiting for the perfect job, the perfect role. They have a degree and want a career. My advice to them is: there is no perfect job. There is no perfect role.

What there are are opportunities. Be willing to say yes, even if you're scared, even if you aren't sure. Say yes. Take the experience, get the learning, make the connections, and then you'll have another opportunity and another.

Being open to what's out there can make all the difference in how your career grows. My career started in the United States Senate. I went to work for not-for-profit organizations. I worked in the Middle East, and I've worked in London.

I've had all of these opportunities because I was curious and I said yes when they were presented.
