What is one lesson you have learned that has proven significant in your career?

The one lesson that comes to my mind isn't anything specific, but it is that your reputation matters. Your reputation matters not only for the judges that you go before, oftentimes repeatedly. They get to know you, and you get to know them.

It also matters with opposing counsel. Especially if you're in a small or medium-sized legal community, you will run into the same law firms and attorneys in your field. If you have lied, misrepresented something, or not been totally honest and upfront, the next time around, you won't be trusted.

This can harm your career. You will get a reputation for not being trusted.
