What have you learned about this role that you wish someone had told you before you entered it?
I wish somebody had told me that this would exist. I am willing to bet that whoever is watching this right now, if I tell them "process improvement, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt," as an undergrad, they have no idea what that is.
This is unless they have somebody in their family who does it. You know, these are common names that you might know as a project manager, or an operations manager. But nobody really talks about all of these niche fields and certifications that you can get to really grow in your role.
In my early years of my career, I was fortunate enough to have leaders who told me this. So, as you grow in your role, do not be afraid of your entry-level job. Just take your skills from university and apply them in an entry-level job.
You will be in an entry-level job, but always keep your eyes open. Not just to the career path of your entry-level job, but to the surrounding opportunities. You might find that your strength is actually something adjacent to what you first came into.
I came in as a bench worker, a lab rat, working every day with cancerous cells and bone marrow. I would not have guessed that I would be in the administrative offices of a large hospital. But by being open to possibilities and opportunities within my entry-level job to expand my skills, I found out about these niche jobs. I actually do make an impact in places where I'm able to make an impact.
