What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?
I actually love two things. I really love the sound design component because it's not something I knew I had to do when I first started. I ended up really enjoying it because it was exciting and something I probably studied and worked on the least in school, as I was so focused on picture editing.
It's really fun because I'm able to decide what something is going to sound like. For example, I worked on *Riverdale*, and it had superheroes in the sixth season. There was a lot of time traveling and weird noises for all their little powers.
It was cool to be the one that created what that was going to sound like by pulling different sounds off the internet. When it went to our sound team, their job was to enhance and make better whatever I did. So it's cool to be the one originating the idea.
I also like not being the one in charge. When you're an assistant, it's a great time to learn from an editor. They're the ones making the final say and giving their reasoning. I mean, that's what I mean by not liking being in charge at this point in my career. It's nice to see someone else make those decisions and justifications so I can learn from that and understand what makes a show better creatively, and why it can become worse through editing as well.
