Biggest Challenges Faced by an Assistant Editor at Warner Bros. Discovery

Morgan's biggest challenge as an Assistant Editor at Warner Bros. Discovery involved the fast-paced, real-time nature of incorporating "notes on the fly" during remote editing sessions; this required quickly implementing changes "in order to complete the notes in time," a skill made more difficult by relative lack of experience. The pressure to maintain speed and quality simultaneously presented a significant hurdle early in Morgan's career.

What is your biggest challenge in your current role?

For my relationship with my editor, he would allow me to edit notes on the fly. This meant that if I was on a call with the producer, usually our showrunner, we would be watching the first act back. We watched the first 10 minutes of the show live, as we were working remotely.

He would have a screen and could speak up on Zoom anytime he wanted us to write down a note. It was my job to write down what he wanted changed. While they were finishing watching the act, I would go into the project and make the change.

This way, when they were done watching it, they could go back through and the changes would already be done. The problem with that was the speed. I would only have the time it took until they were done with the act to complete the notes.

That was the most challenging thing because I was newer. It was difficult to be fast and ensure that it all sounded and looked good, and to complete the note in time. You would be doing a lot of notes at once.
