What are your main responsibilities within your current role?
My current role is Associate Counsel for JW Player. We are a SaaS company with an online video product. I report to the General Counsel, and our legal team consists of two people.
We have about 300 employees, which is a fairly standard size. We use outside lawyers a lot. My day-to-day responsibilities involve managing anything that comes up for the company that is legal-related or requires legal interpretation.
I handle many questions from our marketing teams, such as "Does this promotion sound okay?" I also assist HR with offer letters and, less often, termination letters. Questions can also come from our finance team.
Additionally, I ensure our regulatory filings are in order and that we are in good standing in every state and country where we do business. Last fall, we acquired another company, which was a very busy time. I helped manage the internal teams and our external counsel assisting with that process.
My main responsibilities are ensuring the company operates in good standing and answering any legal questions that arise, alongside the General Counsel.
