What is your biggest challenge in your current role?

A challenge that ties into what I enjoy about the role is knowing how to communicate your message, especially as a lawyer. You spend so much time in school and at a law firm gathering all this knowledge, and you want to tell everyone everything you know. If someone asks you a question about a specific law, you might feel compelled to share all the information you have.

Most non-lawyers asking a question, and even some other lawyers, aren't looking for an exhaustive explanation. They just want the answer to their specific question. They may not even know exactly what their question is, but they want the answer to the problem they are trying to solve.

One of the biggest challenges in my role is remembering that I am not an outside lawyer advising another company. I am part of this company; the company is my only client. I'm here to help move the business forward and give advice that will help the business do that.

It's not about showing off how smart I am or where I went to school. No one cares about that. They just care if you can give them a good, safe, accurate answer that they can use to move forward. So, communicating my message is definitely an everyday challenge.
