What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?
What I really love about this industry is that there's so much innovation in space. I started off in power, but I think what's really special about space is its innovative nature. You see it on the news whenever something big happens in space, and it's known across the entire country.
When we saw the James Webb Space Telescope go out and all the images that came out from there, you see it all throughout social media and the news. There's a lot of innovation, and there's also a lot of pressure in space.
Space could be the potential saving grace of our population. If we know there's a timeline where Earth will no longer be inhabitable, then space exploration will be very important for us to continue to do certain things and to try to move forward as a species.
I think that's very important, and there's also a very strong tangible impact. Fulfillment is something that everyone should try to seek in their careers. For us, I work on the commercial side right now, but we also do defense contracting work as well.
So, whether it's protecting the country or providing commercial internet for people across the world, we have a project where there are three billion people in the world who do not have access to any type of internet. We are putting up satellites into orbit that will provide some sort of internet service for those other three billion people. It's very special in that sense.
I've also mentioned before, working with some really brilliant people, brilliant minds. But the cool thing that most people don't know is that in this industry, we get a 9/80 schedule. For example, today is my off Friday; every other Friday we get off.
When it comes to work-life balance, unless you're getting really close to launch and everyone has to work as hard as they can for a short period, we have a very lenient schedule and it's a great work-life balance. I think that's very valuable in this industry.
