A Day in the Life of a Partner at an Amlaw 200 Law Firm

A typical day for Mindy, a partner at an AmLaw 200 firm, involves "a triage situation" of prioritizing work and family responsibilities, including an almost 8-year-old daughter. Much of the day consists of virtual communication—Zoom calls with colleagues, clients, and opposing counsel, virtual depositions, and even virtual court appearances, leaving Mindy "pretty much done talking" by day's end.

What does a day in the life of a partner at a law firm look like?

Every day is different. It's always a kind of a triage situation to figure out what needs to happen today. It's also about prioritizing.

This prioritization isn't just for my job; it also includes what's happening at home. I have an almost 8-year-old daughter, so I need to juggle all of that alongside my work responsibilities.

I spend a good amount of time on Zoom calls, strategizing with my coworkers, partners, or clients. Sometimes I have conversations with opposing counsel. I also take or defend depositions, which are often virtual.

Even going to court these days, except for trials, we're usually appearing virtually. So I spend a lot of my day talking, and by the end of it, I'm pretty much done talking.
