What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?

I think at the root of it, I love working for a small but growing company that is really dedicated to doing things the right way. That feeling of expansiveness, of looking toward the future and seeing possibilities, is something that has always inspired me.

When I was a journalist, one of the areas I specialized in was new products and special projects. Basically, creating things or recreating them. For me, the greatest spur of creativity is not feeling like you have to stay within the confines of something that exists, but creating something that doesn't. So, that's probably the first and most basic thing.

I enjoy that Precision is a forward-focused company and that we look to work on projects that reflect that, even geographically where we're working. I'm very inspired by that.

I also enjoy the range of subject matter. We do a huge variety of projects, starting with rocket launch and landing pads at Vandenberg, up to a 125,000 square foot wine facility in Paso Robles, which is insane. I wish I could take you there now; it's really cool.

We work for non-profits and utilities, and just all kinds of things. For me, not having been a part of the construction industry before, it's been exciting and eye-opening to think about construction this way: that construction makes all of this possible.

You wouldn't be able to make and distribute wine without a facility like this. You wouldn't be able to have satellites going up and rockets coming back and being reused if there wasn't the very complex infrastructure to allow that to happen. When you start looking at the world that way, it's all about construction. Honestly, that is a lens that is really new to me, so that's really been something I've enjoyed about the job too.
