Biggest Challenges Faced By A Project Manager At SoCalGas

Michael's biggest challenge as a Project Manager at SoCalGas is the unpredictable nature of the role, requiring him to wear "so many hats," constantly learning new things and navigating unexpected tasks such as "figuring out what the IT expectations are for our contractor" or reviewing "regulatory papers from an air quality management district." This necessitates a continuous adaptation to evolving responsibilities and demands.

Transcript

What is your biggest challenge in your role?

I think sometimes you're not sure how many hats you have to wear. For instance, a couple of days ago, I was tasked with figuring out the IT expectations for our contractor getting into our network.

Things like that, it's just so many hats. You're trying to figure out specific things that have nothing to do with your day-to-day job.

For example, regulation requirements from an air quality management district. This involves reviewing regulatory papers to understand the actual rules and expectations.

I think these things can get really difficult. Sometimes there are so many hats to wear that you find yourself always learning new things, but at the same time, having to figure out a pathway. So, I would say that's pretty much the hardest challenge right now.
