What have you learned about this role that you wish someone had told you before you entered the industry?

You have the ability to be a social entrepreneur. As someone who founded a nonprofit, the ideas in your head can be executed.

You have the ability to see a program or initiative, hire a person, or provide them with an opportunity that wouldn't exist if you weren't in charge or hadn't created it.

I love being able to hire someone who really needs a job and just needs an opportunity. I also love the ability to create something new or expand an idea into a place where it hasn't been done before.

I also really like that I get to set my work pace and schedule. This flexibility is important for doing this work long term.
