What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?

Mediation is very much an intellectual challenge. There are a lot of mental tasks involved. It is difficult to resolve disputes, and it requires a lot of active brain power.

This process demands an understanding of human nature, how personalities work, and what people want. It also requires taking the time to work through the dispute.

Arbitration is a different kind of challenge. It's also mentally tasking, but not in an ongoing, active way. It's more passive because I'm receiving information, not acting on it.

I am evaluating the information and listening with respect and appreciation for what the parties are doing. Then, I have to make a decision. What I really enjoy about arbitration is the respect received as an arbitrator.

I also appreciate when the parties express their gratitude for resolving their dispute and for giving them a day to be heard.
