Could you walk me through your career path? Please start with your experiences in college, and any internships or jobs you had before your current role.
In college, I started as a math major, planning to become a high school math teacher. However, during my second year, I realized I didn't love math as much as I thought.
I decided to switch my major to business, which I saw as a very transferable field. I also minored in marketing because I consider myself a creative person, and I thought that would be the best fit. Looking back, I might have chosen international business, but business and marketing felt right at the time.
During my senior year, and throughout college, I worked in restaurants, smoothie shops, and fitness studios, but never in a corporate setting. I knew I wanted an internship, paid or unpaid, to gain some corporate experience and add it to my LinkedIn.
I ended up securing an unpaid, three-month internship with Premier Enterprise Media Services, a third-party provider for Microsoft Software. While I didn't learn a great deal, it gave me a good understanding of how a corporate office operates. The internship was remote, but I still got a feel for the corporate environment.
At this point, I still wasn't sure what I wanted to do. Then, in my second semester of senior year, I was contacted by Insect Global, a large recruitment search partner. Many people in my sorority were also contacted.
I interviewed for several positions and ended up getting a different job in recruitment with Workflow Solutions. I didn't know much about recruiting until I interviewed, but I saw it as a way to enter the corporate world. As a recruiter, you work with various companies across different industries. That was essentially my path into the corporate world.
