What is one lesson that you've learned that's proven significant for your career?
One lesson that has proven significant for my career is the importance of trust and transparency. These are incredibly important qualities.
Being timely is also key, but it's important to remember that what you're working on isn't always critical, like curing cancer. Many people want things immediately, even on a Sunday night.
We're not putting out fires, so if it's not urgent, it can wait until Monday morning. Being transparent, trustworthy, and timely is essential.
Post-pandemic, people showing up on time and being prepared has become surprisingly important. Just being there when the meeting is supposed to start, or within a few minutes if you're running late, makes a difference.
If you miss a call, be sure to reschedule it quickly. Time is money in this industry. I'm on the phone all day, and I hate being stood up.
I've definitely missed calls and then struggled to reconnect. It sends a message when you're not reliable. You want to be known as someone trustworthy, who can be taken at their word, and who shows up on time and prepared. I would just say, stick with that.
