What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?
The thing I enjoy most about my current role is that I am responsible for my own decisions. In some ways, it can be very stressful because if something happens and it's bad, it's my fault. I can't blame anybody else.
But at the same time, if it goes well, that's also my fault, in a good way. So, a lot is riding on things. Sometimes you have that feeling, but it's very rewarding.
I think sometimes you don't want to take on that level of responsibility right away in your career or in life. You want to start things out where you don't quite have that responsibility and there's a little less riding on your job.
Over time, you gain experience, get more confident, and make better decisions. You let other people make mistakes, and you learn from them. After a while, you start to feel that you're getting to the point where, of all the people you're working with in your close area, you're probably the most knowledgeable person.
When you reach that point, it's like, "Okay, now I should really start doing my own thing." For me, that's what I like most about it. It's that sense that you're really doing things that are responsible for your own life, and that includes your career.
Not everybody has that. Some people end up feeling helpless, like they're stuck in a job they don't like and their work doesn't matter. A lot of people feel that way, but I don't. The flip side is, when something goes bad, it's all on me.
