What does a day in the life of a co-founder look like?
The extremely cliche answer is that it's different every day. But to make that less abstract, here are some examples.
Today, for instance, I'm wearing my data engineer hat. I'm thinking about our data architecture for some new features and changes we're launching.
Our head of product is incredibly busy. Because I have a reasonable aptitude for data, I sometimes function as our data engineer. This means I'll be writing our ETL/ELT pipelines or doing a lot of work in SQL. I'll also help on the product side by specking out the technical aspects if needed.
Later this week, I'll put on my PM-ish hat to start writing specs for features we want to launch in a couple of months. Again, this is because our head of product is slammed, and we all support where we can.
Next week, I need to put my CFO hat back on to update our operating model and financial projections.
If it's during fundraising, my day is like something out of a spy movie. My co-founder, Chet, is our CEO. He is the primary person who speaks with investors.
I sometimes speak with investors, but Chet is the main person. I feel like I'm in the support van in a spy movie, sending him numbers and data while he's on those calls.
So, depending on the day, it really does change. Overall, my day involves supporting what other people on the team don't have the capacity to do. It also means helping the company make the right decisions so we focus on the most important things.
