What did you do in college to set you up for success in your career?
One of the best things I did in college was being part of the American Marketing Association. Before joining, I was very introverted and didn't do public speaking at all. I did all right in my public speaking course at Sac State, but before that experience, I was really not extroverted.
Once I joined the American Marketing Association, it was huge. My public speaking improved, as did my organization and networking skills. This experience was one of the biggest things that set me up for success in my career.
That's how I got my first job in marketing. Joining a professional group of individuals made everything much easier. You dive into gaining skills like public speaking and becoming comfortable talking to 40-plus people in a room. It was a very significant thing for me.
