What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?
On the business side of software companies, the most common entry-level roles are Sales Development Representatives. This is an entry-level sales role focused on prospecting for new customers.
This is the most common role for the widest variety of college degrees. Then, within research and development, software engineering is where most new grads enter.
However, new grads can sometimes find other roles depending on their studies or previous job experience. One of those is Customer Success Manager, like what I've done previously.
Businesses often prefer candidates with sales or customer service experience for this role. Yet, Customer Success Manager is one of the most frequently posted jobs on LinkedIn. When there's excessive demand, new grads can sometimes get these positions.
Additionally, grads who studied IT or Management Information Systems can get into Sales Operations Analyst or Deal Desk Analyst roles. Both are roles on my team, and I have colleagues who were able to get them directly out of school.
