What skills are most important for a job like yours?
The first thing I would say is flexibility. Curiosity is also important, along with the ability to use your skills in a variety of different ways.
I really feel it's important to know computer programs. It's important to know how to use, for me anyway, InDesign and Photoshop and all those things. But when I first started doing design work, Photoshop and InDesign didn't exist, and we had to do everything by hand.
Everything changes, so you have to be prepared for that. So, being flexible is key. Understanding the core skills of what you're doing, like understanding composition, how to write a good sentence, how to combine words and images, and how to take information and distill it down.
Those core skills are more important than any other kind of technical skills. You can learn the technical stuff as you go.
